Physical Therapist Assistant

Job Summary:

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is a skilled technical provider of physical therapy treatments and related duties. The Physical Therapy Assistant works under the direction of the Physical Therapist.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists in evaluation and development of a rehabilitative plan of care and periodic re-evaluation.
  • Performs routine strengthening and therapeutic exercises and assists the patient with the use of devices. Prepares clinical notes.
  • Instructs the client and family and assists in teaching exercise programs to the patient and family
  • Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, or drug allergies and reports same to the physical therapist and/or the clinical manager or designee.
  • Reports any changes in the client’s condition to the physical therapist and clinical manager or designee.
  • Reviews outcome of home visits with physical therapist;
  • Assists with the QAPI program as requested.
  • Performs and documents basic clinical assessment every visit to include vital signs temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
  • Prepares clinical notes and reports progress to the physical therapist Performs assigned therapy and exercises as planned, delegated, and supervised by the physical therapist;



Services furnished by a qualified PTA will be furnished under the supervision of a qualified physical or occupational therapist.

  • Must be licensed by the state of Florida
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and equipment used in physical therapy treatment.



Graduated from an accredited and approved institution or program


Minimum of one year working experience

Knowledge and Skills

Bilingual- English/Spanish, English/Russian and/or English/Creole preferred. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with database management software programs and word processing. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Ability to successfully negotiate conflict. Effective organizational skills with the attention to accuracy, detail, follow-up. On-call availability. Own transportation and clean driving record. Must be able to be punctual and arrive at the patient’s home on time.
